Stratus Appareo PRX V2 USB Port Repair
The Stratus Appareo PRX is a portable, battery-operated receiver that works in conjunction with the ForeFlight Mobile app. It provides pilots with free in-flight weather and traffic and is a source of accurate GPS WAAS position. We have partnered with our friends over at https://www.beechtalk.com/forums/ to provide this repair.
This unit has a micro usb 3 port for connectivity and charging the internal battery. Given the long tip of the cable and short mounting points, this is common failure point for this unit.
In the microscope image above, the micro uSB 3.0 port has numerous pulled pads that need to be rebuilt and have jumper wires installed to the traces and nearby vias.
After the new port has been installed the device can now connect to a computer and charger cable.
In this specific repair there were a total of 6 jumper wires soldered to the nearby traces. This is needed after the pads were removed from the board after excess prying externally from the cable. Often times users are able to leverage the port using tape or a rubber band just in the right angle to get it to connect temporarily. This is a very short lived solution as once the traces are broken leading up to the pad then it physically needs to be reconnected in order to regain a lasting connection.
