In a great number of cases, the charging port for a mobile device will feel exceptionally loose or it may feel that the cable does not seem to plug in fully. This is most frequently caused by an excess build up on dust and debris within the charging port. This can be made worse if the charging cable is forced into the device, which may compact this dirt and dust. The dust from the port can be removed, and there is a possibility this will be the only issue. However, the Micro USB type B port used in this device is particularly susceptible to physical damage in this situation. Further physical damage to the contact pins of the charging port may occur if extreme care is not taken during a cleaning of the port. If physical damage is present within the port, or if the device will still not charge when plugged in, a micro-USB port repair is in order.
For this repair, we can see that the inside of the port is clearly physically damaged. To proceed with the repair, the motherboard of the device is removed from the phone’s frame. Anchor points on either side of the device give structure to the port’s connection to the motherboard and require a greater amount of heat to remove from the board than the data/power line connections. Using the hot air station, the solder connections are melted, and the port is removed. Excess solder remaining in the anchor point holes is then removed as well. The new port can now be attached using the soldering station and tacky flux. The anchor points are likewise replaced.
At this point, the Samsung Galaxy J727 with its new Micro USB Port can be tested. The device now charges as expected with a satisfying click when the charging cable is inserted.
